Abstract

1415542 Dyeing cellulosic materials HOECHST AG 21 Dec 1972 [27 Dec 1971] 59236/ 72 Heading D1B Cellulosic material is dyed by a process in which a cellulose ether e.g. sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, is applied in an aqueous medium either before or during dyeing and is subsequently insolubilised on the material by treating with a salt or acid salt of a polyvalent metal e.g. aluminium sulphate, or by using a quaternary ammonium compound e.g. alkyldimethyl-benzyl ammonium chloride. Reactive and azoic dyes are employed. Preferably the aqueous medium contains 0.75 to 3 gms per litre of the cellulose ether and reactive dyes may be applied by the pad-dwell process. The process gives even dyeings when immature or dead fibres are present in the cellulosic material. Cotton piece goods are dyed.
