Abstract

The invention comprises the 2: 1 chromium complex of an equimolar mixture of the monoazo dye from 1-amino-6-nitro-2-naphthol-4-sulphonic acid and 2-naphthol and of the monoazo dye from diazotized 2-amino-4-nitro-5-chlorphenol and 2-naphthol, and a process for the preparation thereof wherein a 1: 1-mixture of the appropriate azo dyes is treated at an elevated temperature with a chromium-yielding agent, less than 1 mol. of chromium yielding agent being used per mol. of dyestuff. In the example the mixture of unmetallized dyes is heated with aqueous ammonia and treated with an aqueous chromium salicylate solution containing chromium alum. The dye complex is suitable for dyeing wool and other animal fibres and polyamides.
