Abstract

Prints on cellulosic textile materials are produced by impregnating the material with an alkali and an azoic coupling component derived from 2:3-hydroxy-naphthoic acid, then applying, in either order, a printing paste containing a diazotized aromatic primary amine and a printing paste containing a water-soluble dyestuff having a dihalogeno-1:3:5-triazinylamino group and an alkali metal salt of sulphurous acid such as sodium sulphite, sodium bisulphite or potassium metabisulphite, and finally heating or steaming. The printing pastes may be thickened with starch, gum tragacanth, locust bean gum, emulsified hydrocarbon oils or sodium alginate and may also contain the usual adjuvants such as urea, glycerine and thiodiglycol. Drying may be effected between the two printing steps. Suitable water-soluble dyestuffs are the azo and anthraquinone dyestuffs described in Specifications 209,723, 298,494, 772,030, 774,925, 781,930, 785,120, 785,222, 797,946, 798,121, 805,562, 816,925, 819,585, 820,470, 821,120, 824,121, 826,405, 838,336 and 838,338. Examples describe the printing of cotton and mercerized cotton.
