Abstract

The fastness of dyeings with substantive dyestuffs on cellulose materials such as paper or textiles is improved by aftertreating with an aqueous solution containing a quaternary ammonium compound of high molecular weight which is free from ether groups, e.g. a quaternized peralkylated polyamine, and a water-soluble sulphate, e.g. sodium, potassium or ammonium sulphate. The water-soluble sulphates may be prepared in situ during the preparation of the quaternary ammonium compounds, in which case they are retained in solution. Examples are given.
