Abstract

Dinitrodiphenylamine compounds containing no sulpho groups are prepared by condensing 2 : 4-dinitrochlorbenzene with aromatic amines; the following products are specified:-2 : 4-dinitrodiphenylamine and its 21- or 41-hydroxy, 21- or 41-carboxy, 41-amino, 41-acetylamino, and N-methyl derivatives; an example is given of the preparation of 2 : 4-dinitrodiphenylamine; the products are employed for dyeing cellulose acetate goods.ALSO:Cellulose acetate goods are dyed by means of 2 : 4-dinitrodiphenylamine compounds containing no sulpho group. The following compounds are specified as suitable:-2 : 4-dinitrodiphenylamine and its 21- or 41-hydroxy, 21 - or 41-carboxy, 41-amino, 41-acetylamino, and N-methyl derivatives. These are prepared by condensing 2 : 4-dinitrochlorbenzene with the corresponding amines; an example is given of the preparation of 2 : 4-dinitrodiphenylamine. The goods are dyed in an aqueous solution or suspension of the diphenylamine compound at about p 75 DEG C.; Turkey-red oil, soap, ammonia, &c. may be added to the dye-bath.
