Abstract

Textile materials of natural or regenerated protein fibres are dyed by applying an aqueous solution at 0-55 DEG C. of a water-soluble azo dyestuff containing at least one sulphonfluoride group and also applying, before, together with or after the dyestuff, a dilute aqueous solution of an alkaline substance, such as sodium carbonate, sodium silicate or trisodium phosphate. The dyestuff solution and/or the alkaline solution may also contain neutral salts such as sodium chloride or sulphate, and other non-acidic adjuvants such as ethylene oxide-fatty alcohol condensates. Lists of suitable dyestuffs are given.
