Abstract

Cellulose esters or ethers, dyeing.--Cellulose ester or ether artificial silk materials which have been delustred with titanium dioxide are coloured by treatment, in either order, with a dyestuff and a water-soluble chromium compound, the treatment with the chromium compound of materials which have been dyed with a natural dyestuff (cf. Specification 440,594) being excluded. In an example, cellulose acetate artificial silk, which has been delustred by titanium dioxide incorporated in the mass before spinning, is treated for \ba1/2\be hour in an aqueous solution at 85 DEG C. containing sodium bichromate and formic acid and the treated material is rinsed and dyed with a dispersion of 1 - amino - 4 - methylaminoanthraquinone; the bichromate may be replaced by chromium chloride or fluoride. The use, as soluble chromium compounds, of potassium bichromate and chromium trioxide is also specified.
