Abstract

Cellulose triacetate textiles are coloured by applying an aqueous bath having a pH above 6 and containing a diazotizable aminoazo compound, then applying an aqueous bath having a pH below 4 and containing 2 : 3-hydroxynaphthoic acid and finally effecting diazotization and coupling on the fibre. Specified aminoazo compounds are p-aminobenzene-azo-a - naphthylamine, p - aminobenzene - azo - dimethylaniline, 4-amino-41-di(b -hydroxyethyl)-amino-azo-benzene and 4-amino-2-methoxy-21 - methyl - 41 - di(b - hydroxyethyl) - amino - azobenzene. The triacetate fibres may be formed by wet-, dry- or melt-spinning processes or by the further acetylation of secondary cellulose acetate fibres, as described in Specifications 448,816, 448,817, 448,917, [all in Group IV], 687,414, 719,853, 721,674, 726,900, 731,930, 748,772 and 758,442, [all in Group IV (a)].
