Abstract
Cellulose-bearing textile yarns are crimped by highly twisting them, wetting them with water (preferably before twisting), drying at temperatures above 250 DEG C. (preferably between 300 DEG and 400 DEG C.) while in the highly-twisted condition, and back-twisting. The water may contain salts of alkyl naphthalene sulphonic acids. The yarns may be dried by hot air, by naked flames, or by passing them over heated metal plates. They may contain cotton or regenerated cellulose fibres. In an example, the yarns, after treatment as above, are worked, in hank form, in a solution containing formaldehyde and aluminium chloride, and then centrifuged, pre-dried at 60 DEG to 70 DEG C., heated at 120 DEG C. for 15 minutes, and finally steamed for 10 minutes. After treatment the yarns may be cut to form staple fibres. Twisting may be carried out, using ring frames or false-twist devices; in the latter case, an endless runner may be twisted jointly with the yarn. Specifications 424,880, 442,073, 464,981, [all in Group IX], and 21627/47, as open to inspection under Sect. 91, and French Specification 884,965 are referred to.ALSO:Cellulose-bearing textile yarns are crimped by highly twisting them, wetting them with water (preferably before twisting) drying at temperatures above 250 DEG C.
