Abstract

318,468. British Celanese, Ltd., (Assignees of Platt, H., and Dreyfus, C.). Sept. 1, 1928, [Convention date]. Addition to 316,521. Yarns, treating with liquids.-This process of the parent Specification for saponifying materials made of organic esters of cellulose, for example, cellulose acetate, formate, propionate, butyrate or mixed materials containing these esters, together with other fibres, for example, cotton, regenerated cellulose or natural silk, is modified in that the saponifying agent is applied in other than paste form, for example, in solution, and the material is thereafter immediately dried under the influence of heat, for example, by passing the materials round rotated heated drums or cans or by treatment in a heated atmosphere. The saponifying agent is preferably applied by means of a padding mangle. As saponifying agents there may be employed sodium or potassium hydroxide, carbonate, silicate or sulphide and to the solutions there may be added any suitable thickening agents, for example, gum arabic, gum tragacanth or British gum. They may be ironed or calandered at higher temperatures and wetted out more easily than the untreated materials and may be dyed very easily without creases, for example, in a winch machine. The materials may be coloured as described in the parent Specification. After treatment, the materials should be washed thoroughly to remove any excess of saponifying agent or products of saponification.
