Abstract

547,629. Thioindigo dyestuff. WILKINSON, D. G., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. March 3, 1941, No. 2814. [Classes 2 (iii) and 15 (ii)] 5:61 - Dichlor - 7:4<SP>1</SP> - dimethyl - 2:2<SP>1</SP> - bis - thionaphthenindigo, which is suitable for dyeing and printing cotton-viscose union fabrics, is prepared by condensing 5-chlor-7-methyl-3- hydroxythionaphthen with 6-chlor-4-methyl- 3-hydroxythionaphthen, one of the components being in the form of a reactive 2-derivative of the corresponding 2:3-quinone. The dyestuff may be converted into its leucoester salts by the usual methods. In examples, the dimethylamino anil is used as the reactive-2-derivative. In a further example, 5:6<SP>1</SP>-dichlor-7:4<SP>1</SP>-dimethylthioindigo is converted into the leucoester salt by means of copper powder and sodium pyrosulphate in the presence of pyridine.
