Abstract

548,806. Thioindigoid dyes. WILKINSON, D. G., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. April 21, 1941, No. 5111. [Class 2 (iii) and 15 (ii)] A dyestuff suitable for dyeing cotton and printing viscose is obtained by condensing 6- chlor - 4 - methyl - 3 - hydroxythionaphthene with 7-methyl 3- hydroxythionapththene, one of the components being in the form of the reactive 2-derivative of the corresponding quinone. In examples, p-dimethylaminoanil of 6 - chlor - 4 - methylthionaphthene - 2:3 - quinone is condensed with 7-methyl-3-hydroxythionaphthene and p-hydroxyanil of 7-methylthionaphthene-2:3-quinone with 6-chlor-4- methyl-3-hydroxythionaphthene. In a further example, the leuco ester salt of the dyestuff is prepared by treating it with copper powder and sodium-pyrosulphate in pyridine and adding caustic soda. p - Hydroxyanil of 7 -methylthionaphthene - 2:3-quinone is prepared from p-nitrosophenol and 3-hydroxy-7-methylthionaphthene.
