Abstract

Asymmetrical 4 : 6-dichloro-bis-thionaphtheneindigo is manufactured by condensing 4 : 6-dichloro-3-hydroxythionaphthene (obtainable by the action of aluminium chloride on the chloride of 3 : 5-dichlorophenyl-1-thioglycollic acid) with a reactive a -derivative of 2 : 3-diketodihydrothionaphthene, or a reactive a -derivative of 4 : 6-dichloro-2 : 3-diketodihydrothionaphthene with 3-hydroxythionaphthene. In an example the 2-p-dimethylaminoanil of 2 : 3-diketodihydrothionaphthene is condensed with 4 : 6-dichloro-3-hydroxythionaphthene, or the 2-p-dimethylamino-anil of 4 : 6-dichloro-2 : 3-diketodihydrothionaphthene (obtainable by the action of nitrosodimethylaniline on an alkaline solution of 4 : 6-dichlorohydroxythionaphthene) is condensed with 3-hydroxythionaphthene. The product dyes textile fibres clear ruby shades.
