Abstract
Fibres, threads, fabrics, films and like shaped structures composed of superpolyamides or superpolyurethanes which have been printed or dyed and developed in the usual manner with vat dyestuffs or their leuco ester salts, have their fastness to light improved by a subsequent steaming operation at superatmospheric pressure, for example at one or two atmospheres pressure. The usual steam development process for leuco ester salt dyeings, for example the method described in Specification 220,964, [Class 15 (ii)], may be replaced by a single steaming at a superatmospheric pressure. In examples: (1), (2) superpolyamide yarn is treated with 5 : 51-dichloro-7 : 71-dimethyl - 2 : 21 - bis - thionaphthene - indigo or dibromanthanthrone prepared as described in Specification 260,998, [Class 2 (iii)], and after soaping, rinsing and drying, is steamed at two atmospheres pressure; (3), (4) wetted superpolyamide yarn is treated with the sodium salt of the acid sulphuric ester of leuco-5 : 51-dichloro-7 : 71-dimethyl-2 : 21-bis-thionaphthene-indigo, acetic and formic acids, developed with either potassium dichromate, ammonium thiocyanate and sulphuric acid or sodium nitrite and sulphuric acid, and after soaping, rinsing and drying is steamed at two atmospheres pressure; (5), (6), (7), (8), (9) the leuco ester salts of leuco-dibromanthanthrone, 6-ethoxy-41-methyl-61-chloro-2 : 21-bis-thionaphthene - indigo, 4 : 41 - dimethyl - 6 : 61 - dichloro - 2 : 21 - bis - thionaphthene - indigo, 2 : 1 - naphthioindigo and the dye prepared from 4-chloro-1 : 2-naphthoxythiophene and 5-brom-a -isatinanilide by a similar method to that described in Specification 233,831, [Class 2 (iii)], are used to dye wetted superpolyamide yarn as in (3); (10) superpolyamide fabric is printed with a thickened paste containing the leuco ester salt of 5 : 51-dichloro-7 : 71-dimethyl-2 : 21-bis-thionaphthene - indigo, o : o 1 - dihydroxydiethyl sulphide, ammonium chlorate and ammonium vanadate and is then steamed at 1 1/2 atmospheres pressure, washed and soaped; (11), (12) the leuco ester salts of 6-ethoxy-41-methyl-61-chloro - 2 : 21 - bis - thionaphthene - indigo and 2 : 1-naphthio-indigo are similarly used. Specifications 186,057, 212,546, [both in Class 15 (ii)], and 534,085 also are referred to.
