Abstract

945,776. Opening bales of fibres. TWEEDALES & SMALLEY Ltd. Aug. 21, 1962 [Aug. 23, 1961], No. 30432/61. Heading D1N. A bale breaking machine has at least two driven rollers furnished with spikes for disintegrating bales resting on the rollers, means being provided for driving the rollers at different speeds. Separate pairs of toothed rollers may be provided for each bale undergoing treatment or any number of rollers A-E in excess of one may be positioned in series and may be arranged to rotate at progressively increasing speeds or alternate rollers may be driven at different speeds. As bale diameters are reduced, roller speeds may also be reduced. In order to ensure proper contact of the bales with the toothed rollers, loading means may be provided. Fibres from each bale may fall between the rollers and be removed through suction nozzles H or they may be carried from one roller to the next to be doffed mechanically or pneumatically from the last roller.
