Abstract
882,811. Ginning cotton. LUMMUS COTTON GIN CO. Jan. 21, 1960 [Feb. 24, 1959], No. 2215/60. Class 120(1) A saw cylinder gin has arrangements for reciprocating the seed cotton roll laterally of the roll box simultaneously with rotation of the seed cotton roll. A shaft 27 within the roll box 24 carries discs 29 set obliquely on the shaft so that as they rotate they move the cotton roll around them with a lateral motion relative to the box 24. Instead of toothed discs, as 29, pegs may be arranged on the roller similar to those of the kicker rolls 23 but with the pegs laid in rows at such an angle to the axis of the shaft 27 as to effect lateral movement of the cotton roll. In order to assist rotation of the cotton roll and to reduce the possibilities of its becoming compressed too hard, a series of freely rotatable rollers 53 define the upper boundary of the roll box. The shaft 27 is driven by a hydraulic motor and drive is transmitted from it to the kicker rolls 23. Lint is doffed from the saws by air blast into a duct 18 above which is a mote belt 16.
