943,735. Slitting apparatus. -MASCHINENFABRIK GOEBEL G.m.b.H. Oct. 11, 1962 [Oct. 14, 1961], No. 38615/62. Heading B4B. Apparatus for slitting paper or other sheets comprises auxiliary blades 4 coacting with main blades 3, Fig. 1, the main blades engaging in grooves provided in the auxiliary blades and pressed axially against the cutting edges of the auxiliary blades, the blades 4 together with the bushes 12, 16, Fig. 2, in the absence of a shaft extending through the assembly, being engaged at their periphery by at least three rotatable axially parallel rollers 2, 6, 11, Fig. 1, and held against axial movement by being rotatably mounted on a holder with a thrust bearing at each end of the blades 4. The blades 4 and bushes 12-16 are engaged at the opposite ends of the assembly by thrust members 19, 20, Fig. 2, which are urged into engagement with the end bushes 15, 16 by collars 25, 26 on shafts 21, 22 secured in the frame structure with ball bearings 27, 28 mounted between the thrust members and the collars. The blade assembly 3 is mounted in individual holders pivoted to and secured on a supporting shaft 5. A sheet of material 1, Fig. 1, is wound up when slit on reels 8. To change the position of the blades, the roller 6 is raised out of position, the main blade assembly is deflected, and the shafts 21 or 22, Fig. 2, slightly withdrawn axially so that the blade assembly is freed for reconstruction, the blades and bushes being readily detachable.
