Abstract

1,009,466. Rollers. WOOD & CO. (BLACKBURN) Ltd. Oct. 8, 1964 [Oct. 9, 19631, No. 39749/63. Heading F2U. A winding mandrel for cloth or the like comprises a tube 1 having an axially slidable blade 3, projected radially through a longitudinal slot 2, by the action of pins 5 on inclined slots in the blade. The end pins are provided with bushes 6 firmly supporting the blade to minimize wear on the blade and the edges of the slot 2. The blade is slid axially by a rod 13, acting, through a bearing 8 on a washer 7 abutting the blade, the other end of the blade abutting a spring- biased washer 14. The rod 13 can be locked in position by a screw 17 in a bracket 18 of the machine. The mandrel is driven by a driving shaft engaging an end plate 12. In operation material is wound on to the mandrel with the blade extended and the blade is then retracted to permit removal of the roll of material. Specification 614,090 is referred to.
