Abstract

1449550 Roll holders VAN DYK RESEARCH CORP 22 Feb 1974 [23 Feb 1973] 8106/74 Heading F2U A holder for a roll of paper or other material comprises a mandrel 13 which is mounted on a sleeve 12 for rotation in bearings 34, 36 in a fixed support 11 and provided with longitudinal slots 14, 15 through which extend a flange 19 and a latch 17 for engaging the ends of a roll, the flange and latch being coupled together for equal movement each side of a plane 20. The sleeve 12 is secured at one end to a centre block 26 on which is mounted the mandrel 13 by means of screws 28. A rod 74 passes through clearance holes in the centre block and a disc 62 and carries a latch supporting disc 52 and a cord supporting disc 90, a spring 82 and adjustable 'ink 84 being provided to urge the rod towards the support 11; in this position a pair of cords 90, 95, which are secured at one of their ends to pulleys 42 and at the other of their ends to the disc 90 and a support 18 for the flange 19, act to move the flange towards the centre block 26 to a stop 40 and to move the latch supporting disc 52 towards the disc 62 where a push rod 68 acts on the latch 17 to retract the latch below the surface of the mandrel against the action of a spring 60. When a roll of paper or other material is slid on to the mandrel 13 to push the flange 19 away from the plane 20, a corresponding movement of the latch supporting disc 52 occurs away from the plane 20 until the latch springs out to engage the end of the roll. To remove the roll a knob 22 is pulled to draw the disc 62 towards the latch supporting disc 52 against the action of a spring 86 to cause the push rod 68 to retract the latch. The fixed support 11 may be pivoted about a vertical axis from a loading to an operating position.
