Abstract

1,096,131. Slitting apparatus. BLACK CLAWSON CO. March 11, 1965 [March 16, 1964], No. 10426/65. Heading B4B. [Also in Division B6] In a combined slitter assembly and winder for a paper web 17, the slitter assembly, which comprises a shaft 50 carrying slitter elements 58 in shearing engagement with slitting knives 66 supported on a tube 60, is mounted on spaced-apart arms 33 pivotally mounted on side frames of the machine so as to be movable, by pneumatic motors 90, between an inner, operative, position and an outer, inoperative, position in which the knives 66 and elements 58 can be adjusted. Web guides 75, 78 are mounted between the arms 33. To facilitate threading the web, the tube 60 is mounted for limited pivotal movement, by pneumatic motors 70, on the arms 33 so as to separate the knives 66 from shearing engagement with the elements 58. Means are provided for defining the inner, operative, position of the slitting assembly.
