Abstract

1,224,827. Winding webs. MASCHINENFABRIK STAHLKONTOR WESER LENZE K.G. 3 April, 1969 [8 April, 1968], No. 17467/69. Heading B8R. In a web-winding machine the web 14 passes over guide rollers 16, 17, 18, a pressure roller 19 and an empty core H 2 to a core H 1 where it is wound into a roll R 1 , the cores H 1 , H 2 being mounted on winding cones carried by rotary discs (Fig. 2, not shown); during this winding operation a swinging frame 25 carrying further pressure rollers 27, 28 and a knife arrangement 31 is in the position shown in chain-dotted lines, but the frame is moved into the position shown in full lines just before the reel R 1 is fully wound. In this latter position the empty core H 2 , with the web 14 wrapped around more than half its circumference, is centred and supported by the three rollers 19, 28, 27; the knife 31 is then operated to sever the web 14 on the core H 2 , and air guided by a plate 36 is blown through the roller 28 on to the core so that the leading edge remains in contact with the core. After a few layers have been wound on the new core the frame 25 is swung away, the winding cones embracing the core H 1 are retracted, the full reel R 1 is swung into a delivery position by means of rocker arms 31, and a new core is fed to the winding cones from a magazine 49. With the new core H 2 now being wound the frame 15 carrying the pressure roller 19 moves back along a guide rod 22 until shortly before the required diameter of the winding or set length of web being wound is reached; a motor is then actuated to pivot the rotary discs so that the empty core is swung towards the pressure roller 19 and the almost fully-wound reel is swung into the second position (as the reel R 1 ) when the changing and winding cycle, which may be controlled by an electric counting device, is recommenced. The pressure roller 19 is perforated (Fig. 3, not shown) in order to permit the escape of air entrained between the roller and the web, whilst the cut-off knife is mounted for limited rotation on its carriage (Figs. 4 and 5, not shown) to allow for automatic alignment during the cutting operation.
