Abstract

825,724. Web cutting &c. apparatus. PAPER CONVERTING MACHINE CO. Inc. Aug. 30, 1957, No. 27430/57. Classes 31 (1) and 31 (2). Apparatus for cutting, perforating, weakening or scoring webs along spaced transverse lines comprises means for feeding a web over a rotatable roller provided with a longitudinal row of spaced blades and, adjacent the roller, a block carrying a row of helically arranged knives successively engageable with the roller blades. As shown in Fig. 1, a web 10 is fed over rollers 11, 12 and 13 to a roller 14 provided with rows of spaced notched perforating blades 26 successively engageable with spaced helically arranged knives 16 carried by each of two holders 15. After being perforated, the web is fed to a slitting roller 18 co-operating with a slitter 19 and then wound on to a rotatable mandrel turret 21. The roller 14 is rotatably supported in a frame 15a which carries a knife holder or holders 15 and may be hinged at one end. The blades 26 are notched on both sides to provide four cutting edges and are each secured to a bearing surface 29, Fig. 7, of a recess 28 in the roller 14 by means of screws 34 passing through openings in a clamping shoe 31 into tapped recesses 33, a strip 32, e.g. of rubber or felt, being interposed between the clamping shoe and the blade. The knife holder 15, Fig. 6, is adjustable by means of a screw 41 and is secured against a bearing face 36 of the frame 15a by means of spring-influenced bolts 38. The knife 16 is held in position in its holder by means of a shoe 42 and a screw 43. U.S.A. Specification 2,512,900 is referred to.
