Abstract
942,724. Foresights for rifles. R. NUNAN, June 1, 1962, No. 21152/62. Heading F3C. A foresight assembly comprises a sleeve 1 which is soldered or screwed by internal threads 2 on to the muzzle end of a rifle barrel and a foresight 24 carried by a foresight bed 15 fixed on an outer sleeve 8 which is rotatable on the sleeve 1, the sleeve 1 being fitted with an end collar 4 formed with diametrically opposed recesses 22 which can be releasably engaged by a locking catch 17, 21 slidably mounted on the foresight bed 15. The foresight can thus be displaced angularly about the barrel axis from an " in use " position to an " out-of-use " position where it extends vertically downwards from the underside of the barrel and be retained in each position. The outer sleeve 8 is also positively located on the sleeve 1 in either of its two alternative positions by means of a spring- loaded ball catch 10 which is associated with a ball catch 19 for locating the sliding catch 17, 21 in the engaged and released positions. A sight cover 25 is pivotally mounted on the foresight bed 15 and can be retained in the " in use " position or in a forwardly pivoted " out-of-use " position by means of a sliding catch 37 adapted to engage recesses 42 formed on the cover 25.
