Abstract

1315916 Truncheons MB ASSOCIATES 9 Sept 1971 [2 Oct 1971] 42145/71 Heading F3C A projectile launcher baton 10, Fig. 1, comprises a barrel assembly 12, a handle assembly 14 and detonating means. The barrel assembly 12 has a grooved barrel 16 provided with a counterbore 18 which receives a projectile (not shown) therein. The handle assembly 14 has a breech member 76 screwably attached to a handle 50 which has a coating 58 of synthetic plastics material thereon. The barrel assembly 12 is connected to the handle assembly 14 by a split collar ring 98, Fig. 6, having half rings 102, 100, Fig. 5, attached to the assemblies 12, 14 respectively and pivotally connected by a pin 123, Fig. 4. The hinged half rings are retained in the closed position by a pin 38, Figs. 4 and 5, which is slidably mounted in a bore 34 of a synthetic plastic covering 32 surrounding the barrel 16, the pin 38 being urged by a spring 46 into a bore 111 formed in the half ring 100. Release of the pin 38 is effected by a pin 109 which is slidably mounted in the bore 111 and has a head 110. The detonating means comprises a firing pin 66, Fig. 1, carried by a member 64 which is slidably mounted in a bore 54 of the handle 50 and is urged by a spring 68. The member 64 is operated by a screw 70 which is attached thereto and extends through a slot 60, Fig. 2, in the handle 50, the slot 60 extending to a notch 62. A safety member 94 is provided to prevent inadvertent discharge of the projectile. A recoil protector 96, Fig. 1, is mounted on the handle 50 and the latter has a hand firing handle extension 82 screwably attached thereto. The extension 82 has a hand strap 86 and can be replaced by a shoulder firing handle extension 90, Fig. 6, having an end flange 92.
