Abstract

882,421. Cartridge actuated tools for firing bolts &c. TORNADO G.m.b.H. & CO. Feb. 25, 1958 [March 14, 1957], No. 6082/58. Class 119. A bolt driving gun has a casing part 2 around a barrel 1 releasably connected to a handle part 3 having a barrel-locking-member 5, a firing mechanism 8-12 and a handle 4 by a bayonet-type joint consisting of pins 18 preferably on the casing 2, engaging in grooves 20-24 in the other part so as to allow the two parts to be locked against relative rotation when they are pushed together to be drawn apart to permit them to be relatively inclined to each other. The front of the part 3 is semi-circularly shaped at 19 to give clearance. The barrel can be slid back in the casing to press back the member 5 against a spring 7 and, by rotation, lock to it with mutually engaging lugs (not shown) i.e. when the pins 18 are slid back along the longitudinal grooves 20 and then rotated around the circumferential grooves 22. In this position the spring 7, acting through the barrel, &c., causes the pins to lock the parts against relative rotation by engaging in the front end'23 of the groove 21. Pressure of the muzzle on a work-surface causes the barrel to move back by the length permitted to the stud in the groove 21 so that a head 9<SP>1</SP> on the striker 9 is engaged behind a lug 15 on the trigger to cock the mechanism for firing. The stroke of the firing hammer 9 is short, so that the gun cannot be fired until the barrel has been pushed back until the pins 18 are at the rear end of the recess 22. An extension groove 24 permits the pins to be fully withdrawn to separate the parts.
