Abstract

1382184 Projectiles; launcher FABRIQUE NATIONALE HERSTAL SA 24 Nov 1972 [26 Nov 1971] 54335/72 Headings F3C and F3A A projectile launcher for mounting on the end portion of the muzzle of a firearm and having a projectile 11, Fig. 2, therein is provided with a base 2 having a hole 3 therein, a tubular socket 4 to be fitted around the muzzle 7 of a firearm extending from the base 2 and with a connecting ring 8 to retain the socket 4 in position on the muzzle 7. The projectile 11 comprises a cylindrical rubber member which is forced into a housing 1 of the launcher, has a hemisphericalshaped head 17, Fig. 8, and has rims 14, 15. The base 2, Fig. 2, has a plate 16 which protects the projectile from pressurized gas or bullets; or, alternatively, the rubber is suitably hardened. The socket 4 has a conical-shaped rim 5, Fig. 3, and a rib 6. The connecting ring 8 is made of frangible synthetic plastics material, is forced on to the muzzle 7 of the firearm, is provided with an inner rib 9 which engages the rib 6 of the socket 4, has a ridge 10 and is slotted at 12, 13, Figs. 2 and 4. When the weapon is fired the projectile is propelled forward as shown in Fig. 8 and the launcher is forced rearward thus causing the rim 5 of the socket 4 and the ridge 10 of the ring 8 to collide and break the latter. When the projectile 11 has left the housing 1 pressurized gas from the muzzle 7 ejects the launcher. In modification the socket 4, Fig. 10, has an outer rib 19 and the connecting ring 8 is provided with a conical portion 18.
