` Beit known that I, PETEROLAUS'EVENSEN, a eitizenof the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illi`- nois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements -in'PolicemensMaeeaof which the following i a specification. .Y

i This invent-i nrelates to-weapons, and has particular reference t improvements in arms carried by the constabularyrf v'Ihe object of the invention *is to enhance for emergency use, and to -alford the, oiiieer the double protection of club and gun all in a. single weapon.

A still further object of the invention is to provide an oiic'ers' gun which may be carried in full view and ready for any. emergency in fact that'he is armed lwith anything more than theordinary mace which itis customary necessary to carry and at the same time make1 the officer better armed bymaking the mace and revolver one instrumennwhich is always carried in the hand ready for instant use.

With the above objects in View the inventhe above-named features, illustrated in the drawings, fully described hereinafter, and incorporated in the claims.

12 represents the handle of the weapon, which is hollowed out suificiently'to accom-I modate the cartridge-discharging mechanism comprising any suitable trigger and hammer arrangement-such as the hammer 13, pivoted at 14, the cylinder-revolving pawl 15, pivoted to the hammer at 16, the trigger 17, pivoted at 18 to a lug 19 upon the handleferrule 20. A bent spring 21, pivoted in the handle at 22, presses at its respective ends against the shoulder 23 of 'the hammer and the lug 24C of the. trigger 17. A spiral spring' 25, fastened to tlie hammer at 26 and' to the pivot end of the pawl 15, as shown, tends to hold the latter in engagement with the usual notches 27 in the butt-end of the cylinder. (Shown in Fig. 5.) The disk 8 is provided with a ci'rcularl flange 8, fitting 'into the ferrule 20, and is secured to the latter by means of screws 8 or other suitable means. The trigger and hammer engagement is of the well-known form and need not be described in minuto detail,. the operation thereof being perfectly apparent to those skilled in the art froma glance at Fig. 1. The ferrule 2O is shown in Fig; 2 as additionally secured to the handle by means of screws 28, and said ferrule is provided with a slot 29 in which the hammer moves. A suitable aperture is also provided in the disk 8 for the striking-nose 30 of the hammer.

It is obvious that numerous modifications may be made in the minor details of a policemans mace embodying my invention without departing from the spirit thereof, and I therefore do not confine my invention yto the speci fic-'construction herein show-n and described. Having thus described my invention, I claim as new| and desire to secure by Letters Patent* '1" 1. The 'combinationprovided with a ferrule having anintegral socket portion, a revolvera andle also mounted thereupon and a carl tridge-discharging mechanism mounted in said nandle.

2. The combination of a club healing-areduced shank threaded on its outer enderevolver-cylinder revolubly mounted 'on Said shank, a handlev having threaded engagement with said threaded end, andmeans independ#4 ently mounted in. said handle .for dischargin' cartridges in said cylinder.`

3. The combination of a club having a reduced shank provided with 'a male .threaded portion, a handle having a shank-aperture and suitable threads adapted to engage said male threaded portion.

4. Thecombination in a policemans mace,

-of a club, a fernalethreaded ferrule provided with an integral shank threaded on its outer -end, aldisk threaded upon said shank; a re-- volver-cylinder mounted on said shank between said disk and club, a hollow handle and means for securing same to said disk, and a n cartrldge-discharglng mechanism mountedin said hollow handle.
