Abstract
942,458. Drying poultry manure &c. G. A. BILBY, and L. W. E. GILES. Feb. 13, 1961 [Feb. 13, 1960], No. 5203/60. Heading F4G. A rotary drying apparatus comprises an inner drum 4, Fig. 1, concentrically secured to a spaced outer casing 1 which is rotatably supported by rollers 2 fixed on shafts 8 driven by a motor 9. The drum 4 has at one end a feed hopper 11, the manure being fed into the drum by a screw conveyer 15, and at the other end an oil burner 26 projecting thereinto through apertures 30, 31 in the drums 1, 4 respectively, the exhaust gases from the drum being recirculated through an opening 27 at the feed end of the inner drum and thence through the passage 28 formed between the drums and the aperture 31 into the drum 4. The conveyer 15 is mounted within a casing 13 on a shaft 16 which is driven at one end by the drum 4 and is adapted to be slidably withdrawn from the casing through an end plate 18. A tray 32 is slidably mounted on a frame 33 for projection through the holes 30, 31 in the drums into the drum 4 above the burner to receive the dried material as it falls from the top of the drum, which drum is provided with horizontal lifters 20.
