Abstract

941,597. Carding engines. SWIFT SPINNING MILLS Inc. Feb. 28, 1962 [March 13, 1961; Jan. 2, 1962], No. 7876/62. Heading D1N. A carding machine has two main cylinders with associated flats and two transfer cylinders located between the main cylinders. All these cylinders are clothed with straight teeth, the preferred clothing being of the metallic type illustrated in Fig. 6. While the transfer cylinders 19, 22 may have diameters as small as six inches, larger diameters are preferred, particularly for cylinder 22 so as to provide a wide fibre working area with cylinder 24. With cylinders 10, 24 of fifty inches diameter and cylinders 19, 22 of twentyseven inches diameter, surface speeds of 2100 to 2300 feet per minute are proposed for the former and 100 to 635 feet per minute for the latter. It is stated that fibre hooks lead on all cylinders.
