842,478. Carding engines. BROADHEAD, M., GOODALL, J., KIRK, P., RHODES, P.D., TEMPEST, E., and TEMPEST, G.H. Oct. 29, 1958 [Oct. 29, 1957], No. 33663/57. Class 120(1). A carding machine has a cleaning roller introduced in advance of workers or flats in order to reduce the frequency of fettling, the cleaning roller being covered with clothing as described in Specification 812,700 and arranged to be rotated in the opposite direction to that of the co-operating main cylinder. The cleaning roller 1 may be set to comb through the teeth of the main cylinder 2 and to enter the teeth of clearer 3 to a depth of 3/8 inch. It is rotated at two to three times the fancy speed and is covered at 5 to reduce fly. In another form a fly stripper is located immediately after the roller 1.
