Abstract

940,007. Valves. HUTTENWERK OBERHAUSEN A.G. Jan. 25, 1962 [May 20, 1961], No. 2945/62. Heading F2V. A valve for controlling the flow of hot gases comprises a valve closure member formed with a bell-shaped portion 20, having a rim which moves into a groove 16, filled with loose sealing material such as sand or fire resistant textile fibres, and a portion 13a having an annular sealing face which bears on the face of an annular sealing element 12. The element 12 is supported in the body with some degree of freedom for lateral movement which is preferably restricted by a ring 11. The portions 20, 13a may be formed as a single member. The valve has a lining 4 of highly refractory material and a layer of insulating brick 5. Between the layer of bricks 5 and the valve body 1 an air gap 6 is provided and aluminium foil 7 reduces the heat losses. Sealing rings may be provided between the annular sealing faces of the members 12, 13a.
