Abstract
The coke is fired by a hot blast fed to the cupola through a set of lower injection orifices. The gas from a single burner at a temp. above that of the blast is fed to the cupola from a set of upper injection orifices. The gas is distributed to the orifices by a pipe surrounding the cupola. This pipe is protected in a shell so that a channel is formed between them through which blast is fed to the orifices, so that energy lost by the gas is recuperated by the blast. The heat losses are therefore diminished and the system is easy to control and maintain. The space required for piping is also an optimum.
