Abstract

Valve exposed to high temps., esp. a hot wind valve for a blast furnace, has a water-cooled body at least partly coated with a refractory, and two end flanges contg. cooling channels and water cooled seals. A chamber is located at 90 degrees to the axis of the valve and contains a flap used to open or close the valve, the flap being actuated by a detachable mechanism mounted on the open end of the chamber. The central part of the valve body surrounding the flap chamber has a rectangular shape on all its surfaces and is provided with a cover facing the side on which the operating control is fixed. Simplified design allows economic mfr., with better control of thermal expansion and contraction due to the temp. changes and also reduced wear of the flap.
