A refractory, domed brick lining in a reactor for the catalytic cracking of hydrocarbons comprises an annulus of arch bricks 1 arranged about an opening in the reactor casing 7 and having a downwardly convergent opening the minimum diameter of which is less than the opening in the casing, supporting an inner annulus of bricks 4 on the conical seating 3. Asbestos cord is fitted in a groove 6 at the upper ends of the bricks 4 for sealing and these bricks, of highly refractory material such as zirconium, cristobalite, sillimanite, magnesite or corundum, form a downwardly divergent passage 5.
