Abstract

732,184. Butterfly valves. TEDDINGTON AIRCRAFT CONTROLS, Ltd., [formerly TEDDINGTON CONTROLS, Ltd.]. April 7, 1954 [May 20, 1953], No. 14208/53. Class 135. In a butterfly valve for controlling the flow of higher temperature air or gases, the bore of the valve body or housing 1 in the region immediately adjacent the movable valve element 2 is provided with a lining 4 of tungsten carbide, titanium carbide or similar hard material. As shown, the valve body is in two parts and the sleeve-like liner 4 is clamped between a shoulder 5 on one part and a spigot-like portion 7 on the other part when the two parts are screwed together. The two body parts may be held together by bolts or other means. Alternatively, the body may be in one piece and the liner made in two parts so that it can be press fitted into a groove in the body. Alternatively, the liner may be cast in the groove which in this case is preferably undercut.
