The admission of air to a supply port 11 urges a diaphragm 19 into the position shown where it closes a vent port 15 from a working port 17 and the latter is connected to the supply port 11 around the periphery of the diaphragm 19. The air pressure in the working port 17 is vented through port 15 when the supply port is vented via a valve, not shown, the diaphragm seating on a surface 12 to close-off the supply port 11. Noise resulting from vibration of the diaphragm is avoided by providing spaced-pads 20 upon which the outer portion of the diaphragm rests when the main part is closing port 15. Vibration is prevented in the other position of the diaphragm by a friction ring 27 around a guide stem 23 slidable in a bearing 26..
