Abstract

938,928. Aerials. COMPAGNIE FRANCAISE THOMSON-HOUSTON. Dec. 23, 1959 [Dec. 23, 1958], No. 43743/59. Class 40 (7). An aerial radiating two flat beams, whose planes make between them an angle other than 90 degrees, e.g. 2#, but whose waves are polarized at right-angles, comprises two reflectors 4, 5 whose major axis make between them an angle 2# and two sources 6, 7 associated respectively with the reflectors 4, 5. Each source comprises a stack of three horns, and the complete aerial assembly is mounted for rotation within a radome 3. As viewed from the sources the reflectors 4, 5 overlap. These overlapping portions 13, 14 are each constructed of parallel elements, and the elements in one set are disposed perpendicularly to those in the other set. By arranging before one or both sources a halfwave array comprising blades set at an angle to the major axis of the associated source the polarization of the waves falling on the reflectors can be made such that reflector 5 reflects only waves from source 7 and reflector 4 only waves from source 6, the reflectors having no effect upon each other.
