Abstract

976,253. Aerials. MARCONI CO. Ltd. Nov. 13, 1962 [April 4, 1962], No. 12954/62. Heading H4A. Energy propagated by the radio horn 2 reflected from the planar reflector 3 on to the truncated sectional paraboloidal reflector 1 to give a substantially parallel beam of radiation which beam is also substantially parallel to the planar reflector 3. Preferably the planar reflector 3 is positioned midway between the focus X of the paraboloidal reflector 1 and the horn 2. The horn 2 is preferably offset by a small angle, e.g. 6 degrees, from the normal to the planar reflector 3 to reduce the re-absorption of the transmitted energy. Side lobes in the radiation pattern are reduced by side plates extending between the edges of the paraboloidal reflector and the planar reflector (Fig. 2, not shown). The planar reflector 3 may be hinged about its line of contact with the paraboloidal reflector (Fig. 4, not shown), thus enabling the emergent beam to scan in elevation whereby the system is suitable for use as a height-finding radar.
