Abstract

1,167,598. Aerials. CSF-COMPAGNIE GENERALE DE TELEGRAPHIE SANS FIL. 19 Dec., 1967 [30 Dec., 1966], No. 57621/67. Heading H4A. A radio wave reflector element consists of a metal conductor made up of three sections AB, BC, CD, Fig. 1, each of which is perpendicular to the other two. AB equals CD, each being less than #/2, where # is the working wavelength, BC equals #/2 x (¢+n). where n is zero or a whole number, and AB + BC + CD equals #/2 x N, where N is a whole number. Thus, AB or CD equals (2(N - n) - 1) #/8. The element reflects waves directed along its axis BC if they are circularly polarized in one sense, but transmits them if they are circularly polarized in the opposite sense. A plurality of elements may be mounted in a block M, Fig. 6, of dielectric material, such as foamed plastics, to make up a reflector structure. Such a structure may be curved, and in one embodiment (Fig. 7, not shown) a Cassegrain type aerial is described in which a primary radiator launches clockwise circularly polarized waves towards a sub-reflector which changes their sense of polarization to anti-clockwise. The waves are then reflected from a main reflector without change of sense of polarization, and pass through the sub-reflector as a collimated beam.
