Abstract

935,747. Loud-speakers. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. April 22, 1960 [April 25, 1959], No. 14230/60. Class 40 (4). [Also in Group XXXV] A loud-speaker has a permanent magnet mounted axially in a basket of weak magnetic material, such as sheet iron, the basket also containing a compensation magnet which equalizes the magnetic potential of the basket and that end of the permanent magnet pointing out of the basket. As shown in Fig. 2, the permanent magnet 2 of a moving coil loud-speaker is mounted, by means not illustrated, in a sheet iron basket 1 the base of which contains an oppositely poled disc-shaped compensation magnet 9. As shown in Fig. 3, the compensation magnet lies on the closed end of the permanent magnet and is covered by an iron plate 14 to form an equipotential surface. A coil 6 and diaphragm 10 are mounted in the basket. The compensation and permanent magnets are preferably of a material containing non-cubic polyoxides of iron with barium, strontium or lead, and calcium may be added to produce high coercivity with low remanence.
