Abstract
818,293. Permanent magnets. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Sept. 29, 1955 [Oct. 2, 1954], No. 27744/55. Classes 35 and 38 (2). A permanent magnet is made of material including a Mn-Bi alloy or at least 60 per cent by volume of non-cubic crystals of polyoxides of iron and at least one of the metals Ba, Sr, Pb which material is first magnetized practically to saturation in a strong magnetic field, then demagnetized in a weaker magnetic field of opposite polarity which differs little in value from the 1 H c value of the material, and finally magnetized to saturation in the same sense but in a field considerably weaker than the said strong field. The material may initially be given anisotropic properties in a magnetic field. Suitable material is that forming the subject of Specification 708,127.
