Abstract

708,131. Transformers. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Aug. 27, 1951 [April 23, 1951], No. 20136/51. Class 38(2) A device such as a pulse transformer or a transforriier having DC. magnetization comprises at least one of the A.C. windings 2, 3 surrounding a magnetic circuit of high permeability material 1, in which a constant premagnetizing field is produced by a permanent magnet insert 4 of high resistivity material having a coercivity of at least 750 Oersteds, and a value of retentivity in Gauss of not more than four times the coercivity in Oersteds. This latter material may be of the kind described in Specification 708,127 comprising non-cubic crystals of mixed oxides of iron and at least one of the metals barium, strontium and lead, with in some cases' calcium. So that this material is not operated on an irreversible part of its curve the field strength I H C of disappearance of magnetization should be at least 1.2 times the coercivity B H C . During passage of the pulse in a winding, the flux is reversed in material 1 from saturation in one direction to saturation in the other, and so that the saturable part of the hysteresis curve of the permanent magnetic material 4 is not reached material 1 has a low saturation value, or body 4 is given a considerable leakage field, e.g. by means of a magnetic shunt The high resistivity of material 4 obviates the need for a conductive screen. Specifications 708,121, 708,132, 708,133, 708,134, 708,135, 708,136, 708,137 and 708,140, also are referred to.
