Abstract

An alloy steel having good wear resistance and corrosion resistance at elevated temperatures contains in percentage by weight: .C.0.95-1.2 .Si.0 -1 .Mn.0 -1 .Cr.13-18 .V.0.5-2.5 .Mo.3.5-4.5 .S.-0.025 .P.-0.025 .Fe.balance The steel is heat-treated by oil-quenching from 2000 DEG F., tempered for 2 hours at 1000 DEG F., refrigerated at - 100 DEG F., and tempered again at 1000 DEG F. for 2 hours. Use of the alloy for bearings, cams, shafts, and gears, is referred to.
