Abstract
931,172. Refrigerators. ELECTROLUX Ltd. March 23, 1961 [April 8, 1960], No. 10643/61. Class 29. In a method of making a refrigerator door having an outer shell 10 bent to form sides 12 and flanges 13, an inner shell 14 and a sealing strip 18 the inner shell 14 is bent in at least one direction and inserted under the flanges 13, the shells being spaced apart by foamed synthetic plastic insulation 24 which is foamed in situ with the door in a mould. The shells may be formed of injection moulded or vacuum drawn synthetic plastic sheet or of sheet metal and the flange 21 of a rubber or synthetic plastic sealing strip 18 is inserted between the flanges 13 and inner shell 14. Partitions or shelves 15 and ribs 16 are provided on the inner shell which includes an aperture 22 covered by a plate 23 or by shelves &c. for the introduction of the foamable plastic insulation. In the modification of Fig. 2 the flange 27 of the sealing strip is of U-shaped cross-section and is placed around the edge of the inner shell 14 to hold the shells in their relative positions prior to the foaming process. In a further modification (Fig. 3, not shown), the spacing of the shells is effected by means of lugs or tabs formed on the inner shell.
