Abstract

1,045,589. Refrigerators. SIEMENS-ELECTROGER€TE A.G. Aug. 26, 1963 [Aug. 30, 1962], No. 33773/63. Heading F4H. In a refrigerator having a work-top which is separate from the side walls of the cabinet, the work - top is secured directly to an upper foamed plastics insulation layer during the foaming process. As shown, the work-top 16 is secured directly to insulation 19 and has side-walls 27 secured thereto, the walls 27 having flanged projections 29 which are embedded in the insulation during the foaming process. The projections may. be barbed rather than flanged (Fig. 5, not shown). In the modification of Fig. 6 (not shown), the insulation 19 is extended forwardly over the door 35 and the side-wall 36 is formed with a groove 37 for receiving the upwardly bent edge 38 of a seal 39. Reinforcing strips 40 are provided in the insulation. In the embodiments of Figs. 7 to 10 (not shown), the side walls are integral with the work-top and sealing means are provided between the work-top and the side-walls of the cabinet. The work-top preferably consists of a carrier layer of chip-board, press-board or sheet metal with an outer covering layer of melamine.
