Abstract

1,098,447. Refrigerators. AMERICAN MOTORS CORPORATION. Nov. 24, 1965, No. 50035/65. Heading F4H. A method of constructing a refrigerator cabinet comprises placing the outer shell with its only open side uppermost, introducing the inner liner through said open side so that the front edges of the liner and shell engage to maintain the latter in spaced relationship, inverting the shell and liner and introducing foamable plastics material through the back of the shell and into the space between the liner and shell. The refrigerator is of the two-compartment type and is supported in a mould (Figs. 8 and 9, not shown) during the foaming process, the mould being inclined to the horizontal and the foamable plastics material being introduced through an aperture (70) adjacent the highest point of the space between liner and shell. The liners may be placed in thin plastics bags before introduction into the shell. A breaker strip (36-Fig. 2, not shown) is secured to the liner (34) by tape (42) and its outer edge is received in a channel (32) which is formed in the edge of the outer shell and contains compressible material (56), The foamable material (e.g. polyurethane) is stated to have a delayed reaction time so that all the material required to fill the space can be introduced before foaming begins.
