Abstract

929,953. Writing instruments. MARUZEN KABUSHIKI KAISHA. Sept. 20, 1960, No. 32241/60. Class 146 (3). A writing or marking device comprises a body formed from two separable components 1, 2 connected together with a dividing member 9 secured therebetween to provide two compartments 5, 7 of which the former constitutes an ink reservoir and the latter provides a mounting for a longitudinally displaceable felt writing-point 20 and contains an ink-absorbent material 22, e.g. felt, sponge, or like porous material, for impregnating the writing point. The member 9 has an aperture 14 therein which forms a communicating passage between the compartments, a valve member being urged by a spring 23 into seating engagement with the aperture and having a rod extending therefrom with its outer end abutting against the inner end of the writing point 20. The body part 1 is of synthetic resin, metal or glass and the body part 2 is of synthetic resin. When not in use the writing point is covered by a cap 3. When pressure is applied to the point 20 during use the valve is opened and ink from the reservoir enters the chamber 7. The member 9 is made of air-permeable polyethylene which permits air to pass into the reservoir 5 to replace ink transferred therefrom.
