Abstract
929,050. A.C. track circuits. WESTING- HOUSE AIR BRAKE CO. Oct. 26, 1960 [Oct. 28, 1959], No. 36706/60. Class 105. An A.C. track circuit comprises track relay 41 energized from track rails 11a, 11b, via transformer 31 and rectifier 35, and a feed circuit comprising an A.C. source, a saturable transformer 15 and a condenser 21 connected in series with the transformer primary 17. The feed circuit is designed so that the track voltage increases with track resistance up to a critical value of resistance at which the transformer saturates and its primary circuit exhibits a non- linear resonance condition during which the track voltage increases rapidly to a new value and remains substantially constant at this value during further increase in track resistance. A value of critical resistance is chosen equal to the lowest value of track resistance expected and the track relay is designed to operate at the constant value of track voltage.
