Abstract

875,564. Rectifying. WESTINGHOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO. Ltd., EASTOP, R. H., and WALKER, A. H. B. Aug. 20, 1958 [Aug. 20, 1957], No. 26236/57. Class 38 (2). A rectifying arrangement in which one terminal of a load is supplied via two or more conducting paths from an A.C. source and at least one conducting path connects the other terminal to the source, includes at least one controllable rectifier device in one of said paths to control the current through the load. As shown a bridge arrangement of elements 4, 5, 6, 7 has connected therewith transistors 8, 9 which are controlled to block conduction of a supply from generators 13 through transformers 12, the duration of the conducting period being varied by a direct control voltage V c . The supplies to the two transistors are in antiphase. In an alternative arrangement (Fig. 2, not shown) transformers 12 are omitted and the generator outputs are shunted by resistors. Three-phase embodiments are also disclosed.
