Abstract

791,033. Phase-sensitive circuits. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Dec. 1, 1955 [Dec. 30, 1954], No. 37679/54. Class 38 (4). In an arrangement for generating a substantially sinusoidal voltage having, a predetermined phase relative to a reference voltage and an amplitude dependent on that of a control voltage, a voltage of rectangular waveform, Fig. 1, is developed in which alternate periods of positive and negative value each of one-third of a cycle are equally spaced and the desired output is derived through a filter circuit. Onoff switches S1-S4 in the network, Fig. 2, are cyclically controlled as shown in Fig. 6 (a) and produce at the junction of resistors R1, R2 from the voltages +V and -V at terminals IT1, IT2 the waveform of Fig. 1 of negligible third harmonic content. The voltages V are equal and opposite and are controlled by a control signal. The on-off switches which may be the rectifier arrangements described with reference to Figs. 3-5 (not shown) may be fed from a three-phase supply through a Scott transformer arrangement to obtain the desired phase relationship.
